Holiday Season!

Wow, it has been some time since I last posted.....probably a combination of being quite busy with the holidays and being lazy, lol! I have done quite a few things since last time, first of all I went to the Art Gallery of Ontario, Dundas Square, Saint Lawrence Market and Kensington Market twice!!

Another reason why I have been checking out more activities is because I recently picked up a new DSLR camera! I finally decided to take the plunge so I can start to take photography more seriously! I got a Nikon D90 which has been amazing so far! I will also be starting photography lessons in January so I can learn the proper techniques of photography. =)

I am quite excited to be taking up this new hobby, but a bit overwhelmed at the same time because there is so much to learn! I am slowly learning photoshop too because I want to be able to edit my photos to make them postcard perfect.

I will try to keep this post short, I will post a few pictures to let you see what I have been up to over the last few weeks.

Toronto Christmas Market at the Distillery District

This weekend I was quite fortunate enough to be quite busy with friends and family doing a lot of catch up. It is definitely the holiday season and company parties, dinner with friends and family gatherings are in abundance.  I was cordially invited to a dinner with a whole bunch of my elementary school friends! I was very excited and a little nervous to see a lot of them because I haven't seen a lot of them in person for over 10 years! I didn't know what to expect as a lot of things can change over 10 years and I was afraid that what I remembered of them would be quite different. People can change a lot in 10 years and I was sort of hoping they didn't.  Fortunately most of them haven't really changed much, just more mature but same sense of humour.  I was very happy to reconnect with them and I hope to make a more concerted effort to stay in touch with them from now on.  I would like to thank Steph for inviting me to her house and provided such a great meal and giving me the chance to reconnect with my old elementary school friends!

My friend also celebrated her birthday this weekend as well so I just want to wish my friend Natasha a very happy birthday and I was really happy to catch up with her and see her again.  Even though I had to wait in the frigid cold to get into the club to see her, I was happy I did. At least I was able to amuse myself by talking with a few "slightly" intoxicated girls who kept on complaining about how cold it was! All I can say was waiting in that line wasn't without its excitement and drama. =)

I also had an opportunity to go and check out the Toronto Christmas Market at the Distillery District.  Because it was quite cold we didn't stay too long. I was quite amazed at how different everything looked at night! I was pleasantly surprised to see how much more vibrant and lively the distillery district can be at night. They had a lot of booths with various crafts, snacks and art for sale.  They also had a beer garden, hot beverage stands and of course lights adorning many of the buildings. I wish I had more time to look around, but it was getting late and the cold wasn't helping....I still want to do the segway tour of the distillery district sometime, it might have to wait until next spring as we had some snow today and there is snow in the forecast for the upcoming week. I really do hope we have a white Christmas this year! =)

Cavalcade of Lights 2010

This was my first time checking out the cavalcade of lights and it was definitely a spectacle for the senses!  I was quite impressed with the firework display and the lights on the surrounding buildings, I hope to get a chance to visit Nathan Phillips Square again this month and some of the main tourist areas to capture more of the holiday spirit!  I was quite impressed with the amount of people who turned out for this, I could not even get close to the stage or the skating rink, it was that packed! Another attraction was the Bay store display windows, they seem to attract everyone from the young children to the elderly, I guess everyone can appreciate a good Christmas display. The Eaton Centre also had their giant Christmas tree as an attraction. Unfortunately due to the construction that is ongoing the tree looks terrible as the background or foreground to numerous scaffolding all around the mall.  The weather wasn't too cold, definitely good walking weather for a late November evening. All in all a pretty productive evening, hopefully I can continue this trend next week, stay tuned!

Can Introverts Lead?

Winter fun in Toronto

The holiday season is upon us and the feeling of anticipation and excitement is growing! The Santa Claus parade already behind us and the U.S Thanksgiving this week there is only 1 more month until Christmas. Usually at this time of the year I find myself longing for the summer weather and dreaming of all the fun summer activities that Toronto has to offer.  Honestly, I have never given it much thought that perhaps Toronto can still be fun and exciting throughout the dead of winter. I plan to put this theory to the test this year.

This winter I am going to make it my mission to find out what I have been missing and show other skeptics like me that Toronto is still capable of being fun and exciting during the winter months! My first interesting event I have come across is the Cavalcade of Lights going on at Nathan Phillips Square this Saturday, this event offers a free concert along with a light display and fireworks to top it all off.  This will be my first time checking it out, I will report back to you this Saturday night. Stay tuned!

First post on my new blog!

Hi everyone,

Just thought I would start up a blog for myself, not exactly sure of what I want to accomplish with it yet, or what purpose it will serve but I will continue to think about it over the next little bit. My initial thoughts about starting a blog is to share some general observations on day to day life, perhaps share some advice on various topics and maybe even blow off some steam through a rant now and again, lol. Time will tell how this will evolve. :)
